The Chedi, Andermatt

If I would have to describe The Chedi with two words they would be “impressive” and “huge”. “Impressive”, because the five star hotel is the biggest building in the small mountain village “Andermatt” and  it can already be spotted from far when arriving by car. “Huge”, because it is not only big from the outside but also inside. The ceilings on the ground floor are very high and all public areas are very spacious.

There is the smoking room with a large two-stories bookshelf, the “vinothek” filled with wine bottles from floor to ceiling and a lounge area. Everywhere in the hotel are fireplaces (apparently it has more fireplaces than rooms), which makes it very cosy.

I arrived at lunchtime and had a “Jäger Rösti” at the lobby. Mouth-watering!
It is furnished in a rather uncommon way for a European five star hotel. Guests can sit/lie on a big sofa bed for two and the food is served on a table, which is placed between them. Condition: shoes have to be taken off.

My room could also be described as huge! I got upgraded into a Deluxe Suite, which measures 110m2. Bigger than my apartment at home! You can imagine that I got lost very quickly. The room had 2! dressing rooms, a dining table, a big couch area, two leather armchairs placed in front of the fireplace, a super comfortable bed and a bathroom with bathtub and shower.

Unfortunately I was at The Chedi for work and didn’t have time to try the spa. But that gives me a very good reason to come back with my husband next time!

And that is exactly what I would recommend to you: a romantic weekend getaway in Andermatt. The village is very small (“sightseeing” finished within 30 minutes) and the hotel offers everything you need for a weekend for two!
